SL Server Disk Mirroring (RAID 1)?

Hey all,

We just picked up a new Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard Server installed on it and I have one question..

Is it possible, without booting to the SLS DVD, to build a RAID array from the two drives?

The system has 2x500GB drives in it, one of which contains the OS and one of which contains nothing. I would like to mirror the first disk using the second.

The problem is, I only have access to the machine via VNC over VPN, so I can only get to the desktop and to the Server Admin utility.

Please help! There's got to be a way to do this from within the OS!

The Server Admin is useless, you need to get access to the applications folder and run the disk utility in which you can create a RAID1.

Sure you really want to mirror? Bad data or hosed OS on one, bad data and hosed data on two. I'm not sure that's a path that if followed will turn out well. Better to use the second drive for Time Machine or CCC. But to answer your question, Nope, have to start over with the install. Boot from disk, use Disk Utility to do a SW RAID, then install the server OS.

i was thinking of doing the same , would using an extrenal drive work

Yep, we have a Time Capsule for our Time Machine backup. This will serve an entirely different purpose.

Thanks! Using these directions, I was able to boot to the SLS DVD and setup a software RAID mirror without losing any of my data.
