Hey folks,

am I the only one who is extremely annoyed that I cannot just type emojis in messages, just like I can in Slack and alike?! 🤦 🤯

Please tell me that this will finally be possible in Monterery!

What exactly do you mean? You've always been able to type emoji anywhere you please. Well, unless the text field only supports ASCII I guess. But anywhere that takes unicode input you can do it. ctrl+cmd+spacebar opens the character picker as a shortcut. ^+⌘+␠ if you prefer. Can do all sorts of symbols. 🂉. - This has been in macOS/OS X for ages

Sure I know that, but in Slack and lots of other applications I can just type \:facepalm\: (without the \ of course) and I will get the 🤦 emoji. Works in this forum as well btw.

In messages, it doesn't. Plus, when I use my Mac in German, I cannot type the common English names of the emojis in the emoji picker. I have to type "nichts böses sehen" instead of "see_no_evil". That sucks. Again that works perfectly on Slack, WhatsApp and others, even if my Mac is running in German language...

Having that said, it would be nice, if Messages supported Markdown...

Oh I see. I didn't know that :)
Well, I highly doubt you'll get that feature in common text fields since I think it'd confuse more people than who would benefit from it. I use the feature in Discord but wasn't aware it was common other places.
