Slacker Uprising: Free!

So I knew Michael Moore's "Slacker Uprising" was going to be available for free download online, but I didn't know it was going to hit the iTunes store!Cool!

It's not featured prominently in the Apple TV "Top Movies" (you may have to search for it), but it's available now for anyone who wants it. I'll have to watch it soon.

It's not spam, it's "viral marketing". There are bad seeds out there, but the linked-to site is reputable (no spam sent to your email, realistic deals/free trials, etc.).

I got my first iPod with a similar outfit.

You wont find it. It's only available in the US and Canada. Here's what Mr. Moore says about this on his site :

"If you live outside the U.S. and Canada, I'm sorry that I don't own the rights to make this film available to you for free. But it will be coming to a theater, video store or television network near you soon."

When Apple feature the trailer for An American Carol on their Quicktime trailers page and bury the free Slacker Uprising in the iTunes Store without even one front-page link I wonder if they value their right-wing customers more than everyone else.

In fact I wonder if they classify any Intelligent Design podcasts under science... Why, yes, of course they do. ID The Future is classified in Natural Science.

Seems like the culture war is encroaching in Apple's online store too. Sad really...

You don't know? That's because they stick to what they know, and they know if they take a strong stand, they'll offend 45% of the US. Hey Apple, just stick to what you do well and stay out of politics.

Oh and I think perhaps the reason An American Carol and not Slacker Uprising was featured on the quicktime trailers is because An American Carol will actually make money for Apple. This is a business, after all.

It is sad that republicans view green products as "left-leaning." Perhaps you do not breathe the same polluted air as everyone else. This whole unproven idea of climate change must be nothing more than a distraction by liberals from the real issue at hand: Armageddon is upon us and only those saved souls who vote republican are going to heaven. [dripping with sarcasm]

Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong sell their brands, not content like Apple do. Anyone who sells content is susceptible to criticism about the politics and values they promote. When Apple buries Slacker Uprising and promotes An American Carol they seem to be appeasing those "45%" who are easily offended. It reeks of the politics of fear that has gripped America since 2001.

Oh and I think perhaps the promo for An American Carol has not made Apple any money; it is just as free as the download for Slacker Uprising. Maybe it will make some money when it goes on sale as a movie download and rental but even then, I doubt it will do as well as Michael Moore's documentaries; An American Carol makes crap like Scary Movie look sophisticated and Slacker Uprising will be on sale outside the United States so we will see if it gets any more promotion on iTunes then.

Nah, Slacker Uprising is just kind of a non-event. It's worth the watch, but I discovered it was nothing incredible (I like Moore's "Sicko" and "Roger and Me" best). I actually found out about it because it was featured prominantly in iTunes momentarily.
