sleep and bluetooth KBM?

So I took my Mini in to the Trafford Centre Manchester for its Procare tune up yesterday. And there it was, all abandoned and forlorn - the object of my latest gagdet infatuation: a 20" iMac. It was a refreshed return, so discounted, and thus utterly irresistable! So walks in with a Mini, and out with a new 20" iMac (and a 1.42 G4 Mini being retooled for media centre work!). The Store transferred all my files from the Mini to the iMac, and I'm all good to go!

It came with bluetooth keyboard & mouse - very slick!I'm thinking it's sensible to switch them off when not in use to conserve batteries, am I right? But if I sleep the iMac, then how do I turn off the mouse without disturbing the iMac's slumber?

I gotta say: this is some fabulous piece of kit!!! Would just like to resolve this question...

I've found the answer is to do it really quickly! With my G4 Mini if you turn off the keyboard then click on Sleep and immediately turn off the mouse you can do it before the machine is actually asleep. This does not cancel the sleep request. If you wait till the machine is asleep then it's too late.

The battery life expectancy on these devices is pretty good; unless I know I won’t be using my computer for an extended period I never turn off my blue tooth devices. The laser blue tooth Mighty Mouse is a real improvement over the previous blue tooth mouse with respect to conserving power, and the keyboard lasts even longer than the mouse.

Agreed, the BT KBM set is much better in power than the first generation mouse. I've had my set since Oct. connected to my Mini and the power meter still says 100%. It's just 5 green bars in the BT KBM section of the system prefs. And I never turn mine off. The new mouse can actually run on 1 battery if need be.

Good to hear though that I might not actually need to do this - that the battery life is actually pretty good now =^)

I had a negative expectation conditioning from my previous bt KBM, which was so awful on batteries I reverted to wired. Strike one for Learned Optimism!!!

2nd day as an iMac 20 owner: buyer's remors? Not a sniff! This puppy rocks!!! smiley emoticons all the way

Sweet The reason I turn it off is not to protect the batteries: I've got rechargeables. It's to stop my waking the machine up by mistake!
