So yes, I've done a Mroogle, and I've found some information, but many of the problems I read about weren't similar to mine and little information was presented. I figured it would be best to make a dedicated thread for information to gather and for people to come to if they have a similar issue with sleep mode. (It seems to be a reasonably common issue, though they might not always be the same issue.) That means it isn't just about my problem, though I obviously want help, haha.

MY problem:

When my Mac Pro wakes up after having slept for over 20-30 minutes, my desktop pops up normally, but as soon as I click on an app, it bounces up, down, then stops bouncing. Sometimes an app like Address Book will actually launch while others don't. Every time a hard reset is necessary.

I have an OWC Mercury Pro SSD installed as my boot, I was thinking it might have something to do with the drive not properly waking from sleep? I still have the factory drive, and I've been thinking about reinstalling the OS on that and testing.

I had the same problem with a mid-2010 2.8 Quad MP and a 60GB OWC Mercury Pro SSD for the boot disk. I sent the SSD back to OWC and purchased a 1TB WD Black 64mb cache for my boot/data, and configured the original 1TB WD Black 32mb cache for Time Machine. I thought I would either wait for the firmware upgrade to the Sandforce drives to show up from the manufacture before I go back to SSD's for bootdrives, or wait to see if the new Intel's that are coming this spring will work well after sleeping.

If it was a dying SSD, it has now passed away. Can no longer boot from it whatsoever. I guess I'll return it and, like rrdiaz30 said, wait until they're more reliable. Pretty disappointed. :\

Also had the sleep freeze issue (would freeze after having been sleeping for 30+ min).

But, issue went away after I verified my SSD (mercury pro 120gb) and repaired the permissions.

I have an 0WC 120GB SSD as my startup drive. I had a similar sleep problem when I had automatic sleep turned on. Apparently this is a known problem inherent in their SSDs ... and I think a firmware fix is still pending. That's what they told me a few weeks ago.

The interim solution is to disable automatic sleep. It still sleeps and wakes up fine if I sleep my machine manually.

Is your problem only when the machine sleeps automatically? If so, just disable auto sleep and check with OWC to see if they've got a fix yet.

OTOH, if your problems occur waking from a manual sleep, something else is going on.

I have an OCZ Vertex2 (firmware 1.24) in my iMac and it manually sleeps perfectly and on the few occasions it has auto-slept it also woke perfectly.

I would continue to check OCW for firmware updates and if the drive won't boot at all now, certainly get it sorted under warranty. Ask them what to do with your personal data though - if you can boot off an HDD and manage to read the SSD, check their "secure erase" procedure and clear the SSD.

I just noticed exactly the same issue. I have OWC SSD as a boot disk and whenever I put it to sleep manually and wake it - works properly, airport restores the connection like it wouldn't even loose it for a while.

However when the computer sleep is set to auto after certain period of time, upon waking up - airport is not connected and I cannot launch any app, the only way is to hard reset.

To be honest I always set the computer sleep to never - so it is not a problem for me, but since OWC produce the MAC related hardware, I am surprised it doesn't work as it should.
