I haven't heard of anyone turning their computers off for a few months now. I leave mine folding, and I've read many times (on these forums) that they put their macs to sleep and that's that.

I think you'll be fine :)

Apple's are pretty much meant for just sleeping. That's why they go to sleep and wake up so fast. :D

I only shut it down when I have to, or when I don't want the little "sleep light" lighting up the whole room. (And I'm trying to sleep)

Yeah, I sleep mine all the time unless there's a specific reason I have to turn it off, and I don't think there has been yet. I've only restarted it for updates and to see how fast it could boot up :D.

i do sleep too

I've bought my powermac titanium about 3 years ago. The only time i turn my mac off was three times, when i went on vacation for several weeks and couldn't get my mac with me.
So my mac is on and on and on and when i don't use it i put it asleep. Like i do myself.
It's just fine, and i change the location when i on different places.

I wouldn't recommend it. It might turn on by accident while in a bag and that's not good. If that happens just one time, it can overheat your laptop.

If the laptop is in a case, and the wake on bluetooth is not on, there is almost no way a laptop will wake from sleep randomly. It is perfectly safe to carry around while sleeping.

safe sleep problems

Hey guys, i'm having a problem with safe sleep on my c2d macbook...everytime my computer goes into safe sleep (hibernates) when the battery is low, the keyboard becomes unresponsive (freezes) upon waking...the mouse still works, but none of the keys on the keyboard work...this problem does not happen with regular sleep...anyone else have this problem?? Any fixes or ideas??

Only thing to remember is that if you drop it while it's asleep, you could cause some damage. Granted, you'd probably cause damage dropping it while it's off.

Does shutting it off (A dual g5) conserve power or does the rebooting process take a lot of energy? Which is more energy efficient? I use my computer everyday.
It's recommended by Apple to let it sleep if you are using your computer more than once every 48 hours.
and also, starting up uses a lot more energy than sleep.

save anything you were working on and restart. Happens to me as well, but after a restart, everything is back to normal.

I tried just sleeping my Macbook CD 1.83, with 1GB, and when it wakes a couple hours later is gets slower, and the longer i leave it on the slower it gets, and the page outs go from 0 to like 500. I find if i dont shut it down everynight it gets so slow by the end of the next day, i couldnt bare leaving on for 2 or 3 nights in a row..

Is there something wrong with my macbook? or is it normal for it to slow down when left on for 2ish days ?

Pretty much sleep all the time, except for when traveling. Then turn it off.

When was the last time you had a light bulb go out at any time other than when you turn on the lamp? It's the initial power surge which wears down electronics the most. So sleep away...

That happens quite often to me. Sometimes when I'm carrying it in my backpack, having closed the lid and assumed it would go to sleep, I hear it suddenly saying "iCal needs your attention..."

Just last night, I put my MBP to sleep by pressing the power button and clicking "Sleep". Then I picked it up and carried it into the next room, set it gently on the coffee table [because it's my treasure] .... and heard it spinning up again. It seems to wake up when I move it.

I disabled Bluetooth the day I set it up.

I'd like to know the answer to this question as well.

I have a MBP too, and sometimes it just experiences insomnia. It won't sleep when i close the lid. I'd reccomend you check if the sleep light is pulsating before storing it away. Another good way tomake sure your computer goes to sleep is to press Command+Option+Eject.
