Sleep Issues - nMP and OWC Thunderbay IV

Received my nMP last week (6-core/1TB SSD/64Gb/D500s) and got an OWC Thunderbay IV in JBOD connected via Thunderbolt. All works fine apart from when putting the nMP to sleep. Disks spin down in the Thunderbay, Blue light turns orange, stays like this for between 5 - 10 seconds then the Thunderbay comes back to life. Blue light comes back on.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues or any suggestions for what may be causing it.

Check your energy savings settings - make sure to have proper settings; set them up on 'never'. Other things can be signal from network - if you have 'wake computer to network signal' checked this might be other issue. If it's not the issue, just turn off the computer. It's not wise to have it with electricity in it all the time anyway. Plus one thing users don't know is that when you turn on the computer it does some hardware/software checks(like smart status) and it also check permissions/logs etc and do automatic clean up. So not the best thing to have it always on sleep. I had my work macpro always on sleep and after 1 year started to have issues. One Apple technician said it's better to turn it off. So i did and no more issues...

As for tuning off the computer when not in use - there are other experts who advise against this. Power cycling causes stresses on some electronic components, and can shorten their lifetimes. And some components have lifetimes that are related to hours of being powered on. So there is no hard and fast answer.

I am writing this with a first generation Mac Pro that has been powered on almost continuously for over 8 years. Of course, it sleeps when not in use.

From the manual...

Although the on/off switch controls power to the device, the ThunderBay IV requires a data signal in order to turn on. As long as the on/off switch is in the ‘on’ position, the ThunderBay IV will turn on when it receives a data signal through the Thunderbolt cable. If there is no Thunderbolt cable connected, or if the computer is off or in a sleep or hibernation mode, the ThunderBay IV will turn off and its power LED will turn orange to indicate that it is not receiving a data signal.

I would try sleeping it and then disconnecting the TB cable.

If it still comes back to life, you have a faulty unit. If removing the cable fixes this behaviour, it's most likely some setting on your Mac (as per pcd109's post #2... such as Power Nap or Wake on LAN) or, less-likely, there may be a fault with the Mac TB bus, port, or cable and switching things up should narrow it down.
