I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced "the sleep issue" with their Beta version of El Capitan and if anyone has found any solutions to it?

It happens on my MAC after the computer has been in sleep mode over night. When I try to wake the computer up with the mouse or keyboard the screen stays black for awhile but then wakes up to a grayed out screen - and now with this strange timer type bar at the bottom that's never been there before...Once it finally wakes up everything is super sluggish to get going.

I keep reporting it with the Feedback Assistant but was just curious if anyone here had found a fix for it....thank you so much!

I have not experienced this with El Capitan.... but it sounds like what happens on my laptop (running snow leopard) if I let the battery run too low and it goes into hibernate mode rather than normal sleep. After re-charging the battery and starting up it resumes with a greyed out screen and progress bar made up of little squares. It then takes a while for the computer to become responsive.

Is the progress bar made up of little squares (similar to when you change the screen brightness or volume using the keyboard... only bigger squares).

I know none of this is really helpful for your situation but hopefully it may give a clue to what is going on and someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I assume the problem only occurs when putting the mac to sleep for extended periods / overnight?

I have seen something similar on waking my macbook 2015 running latest beta. I filed a feedback thingie.
I get a black screen but with workable mouse pointer. Only way out is to power off and back on.

Hi all - I think I found an answer to my own question. Interestingly I remembered that this sleep issue was a problem I had when I first purchased my MAC a long time ago. I had called support back then and they had me change a setting and it fixed everything. I just did it again and it seems to have solved it again with El Capitan:

Go to System Preferences, then Energy Saver and from there change the first setting toggle for Computer Sleep to Never.

I remember the support guy telling me before that this wouldn't hurt the computer and that computers are essentially like refrigerators and you should never turn them off, etc. Not sure but it worked back then and it seems to be working again, not sure if it will be the same on a laptop but I hope it helps!
