So a few issues I'm experiencing here with sleep mode.
It's a G3 iMac 350mhz, first of all, my iMac almost never goes to sleep by itself. I've tried setting the monitor and sleep times exactly the same, and hours apart, as well as having turn off hard disks when possible both on and off. Sometimes it will freeze instead of sleeping. If I put it to sleep manually it will go to sleep just fine.
Second, when I try to wake it, the hard drive takes anywhere from 20 - 40 seconds to actually spin up again. Any clues whats going on here?

I found that it was a widget stopping my iMac from sleeping, it was rather annoying.. perhaps that may be a sleep issue.. sometimes USB devices do it too so, unplug and test which USB devices could be causing an issue here.

Have no idea on the HDD issue, perhaps its an old computer, and its getting a little tired.

I'd say youre doing alright though still using a G3. :)

Well I completely disabled dashboard to see wether or not it was a widget, but it still won't sleep on its own. I also closed out activity monitor as I leave it open to keep track of memory usage, still no go.
I wonder if my gmail notifier might be keeping it on, since its continualy checking for mail.
Still no luck with the hard drive issue though.

Definately try turning gMail notifier off. If its a program that is actually working all the time its likely to be something like that that is causing it to not sleep.
