Sleep Problems on PB G4

When I close the lid to put the PB to sleep, sometimes it will not wake up when the lid is opened again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

All the maintainence I do is repair disk permissions every now and again. Should I run disk utilities from the boot CD? What about the terminal repair commands? If anyone has a link to instructions for this I would be grateful.

Is this when it's plugged into the power adaptor? Is the sleep light still pulsing? Could it just be low on battery? If not, try resetting your PMU.

It's plugged in and when I open the lid the power light is still pulsing. Looks like I will be resetting the Power Manager tonight.

grrrr. Im am Very Aware of THIS problem. I have a 1 GHZ Titanium Powerbook with very similar problems. EVEN after many PMU resets & Hard Drive replacement, Im still getting this problem. The system goes to Sleep and when i tap the key board to wake it, the Sleep light goes off but the system never comes back up. Ive had to do Hard restarts about 30 times in the past 2 months.

The Computer is 3.5 years old and i have used it about 4-5 hours a day, Every Day for the past 3 years, so i Chalk it up to OLD AGE. There's little i can do about it. Shes been a Workhorse till now!!!

So I got home, reset the PMU, and ran fsck for the first time ever. It didn't finish and gave the following errors. I am using 10.3.9, HFS+ journalled.

** Volume check failed

Do I have a problem?

Sleep probs. are perhaps easy fix; mechanical switch sensor >>

There seems to be an 'activator' wake/sleep called a 'reed switch' - it is sensitive to motions keystrokes and any movements...it happens on my iBook g4 off and on for reasons (?) - humidity/ temp changes while cooling during sleep - making the mechanical reed switch erratic.

Check out a new switch; perhaps..

Try a Safe Boot
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:

Be sure the computer is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo.

You can start up your computer in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair. A Safe Boot, which starts up your computer into Safe Mode, may allow you to start up your computer successfully using a reduced version of the system software.

After the system has fully started up, restart your computer again normally.
I would check it again with fsck to verify.
