In anticipation of my first new MacBook in 8 years I was wondering if you could share what settings you use for sleep, screensaver, etc. to get the most efficient battery usage and also the best screen and battery health, both while plugged in and while on battery. Any best practices or good habits as far as those settings and options go? Any third party apps that you consider essential?

A lot depends on your usage patterns. When on power I never sleep but have the display turn off after an hour. When on battery I shut the display off after 15 minutes. I usually don’t have any peripherals attached when running on battery so that saves some power. Keep the display brightness low. As I’ve found with my iPad, using it outside is a battery killer.
