I tried to update my phone from IOS 7 to IOS 9. it goes through a first slide to upgrade once that is done i get a screen that says slide to set up. then it says update complete your Iphone was updated successfully. there are just a few more steps to follow, and then you're done. then i hit continue and it takes me to a screen that says slide to upgrade, but it does not let me slide. i'm not sure what to do. I already tried to restart the phone by holding in the home and off button at the same time and it did not do anything. I'm not really sure what to do.

I had this issue too. You need to download the IOS 8.4.1 file, put your device in DFU mode, and restore it to that file. Then you can restore your most recent backup. Then you can update to ios 9

This is a major bug that Apple needs to publish a memo about.
There are lots of reports of this on the net.
I hope this helps you.

Ahh. This issue just made the yahoo front page.

Wow. How can Apple miss this one. You would think they would test upgrades from older IOS's.

I ran into the same problem updating my 5s from 7.1.2.(ota). Before I went down the path of DFU installing 8.4.1 as has been recommended by some sites I did a power + home off and it recommenced and finished the installation process when it powered back on.

It's gonna be a problem for those who own an iPhone or iPad but no a PC or laptop.

I spoke too soon. I decided to do a reset all settings and the phone has got stuck 10% of the way through. Nothing I can do to kick it out. iTunes isn't recognising it as my phone (wants me to authorise iTunes to sync with it but I can't interact with the screen to ok it) so it's down the dfu restore route unfortunately.
