Hi,

I've had my 24" iMac for a few days now, and am loving it. However, I do hear from time to time, perhaps with more activity, a slight 'chugging/soft clicking' noise coming from near the top of the unit. It does sound a bit like HD scrubbing, but I think that I can hear HD access seperately. Even if it is the HD, SMART status is fine. It does go away after a while, but I am hoping to use this as the source for my HiFi, among other things, so I do value quiet.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do? I'm almost certainly not sending it back, especially with everything else working perfectly. I'd just like to take the experience from 99% to 100%.

Thanks for any help in advance,

David

I have had my 24 for a few days and the only noise I get is a slight wurr from the fans, usual expected noise I suppose as the screen tends to heat up after long periods of use, Sorry not to be of any help

LOL - You weren't quick enough to stop me seeing your first post...

I know what you mean, but I can hear the faint hum of the fans, and HD or Optical access. Now, the optical drive might just about drown it out, so it isn't that loud, but it is louder and much more annoying than the other fans and the HD. I'm pretty much sure that it is the fan behind the HD.

I do have Applecare - what are the chances of persuading them to come out and replace the fan? - no way I'm shipping it back now.

Nuts - I've also noticed the screen hum on reduced brightness - looks like this will have to go back. :(

Edit: RMA number and everything obtained. Happy days...

hmmm--
very strange,
I was looking at this thread because my new 24" (set up last night, 7 hr.s total use) had just started to make a modest buzzing noise eminating from the upper cooling vent. Oddly enough, it went away as soon as I started to look at this page... I hope it's not a sign of a noisy fan.
