Okay so long story short I have an OS X Mavericks backup from long ago, and it got slightly corrupted, so now when you open the disk that the backups are on it shows Backups.backupdb and a folder called lost+found. This contains all of the files which were moved some how. I found the applications folder and need to put it back (I want to repair this Mavericks backup and got back to Mavericks) but OS X won't let me move the files. Is there a tool that I can use to move them back, or a way of doing this without problems? I am running OS X El Capitan, hence why this thread is here.
UPDATE: I've looked on Apple's website and it says to Option click the Time Machine icon and click on Verify Backups, which I tried but the button is greyed out.
UPDATE (again): My backup disk is a USB local disk, not a network disk.
