Ok - I know there is a topic on current vs. upcoming on here, but this is a little different.

Available is a slightly used 2011 Mac Mini (server version) for $600:

2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB memory
Dual 500GB 7200-rpm hard drives
Intel HD Graphics 3000
OS X Lion Server
OS X Lion

If I was buying new I'd likely buy the highest-tiered, non-server edition (which right now goes for $800) - but would depend on what the newer version comes with.

I'll be using it as really a server of sorts. No need for gaming graphics, but will need to processing and ram power to process videos (through Plex for example) and convert videos when needed. I will only be accessing it through other computers. I don't really *need* the dual 500gb hard drives either as I have 5tb of networked external storage. However, I do plan on using one of my drives via USB - so the whole USB 3 that will likely be on the new version sounds interesting.

Any advice or recommendations would be most appreciated. I honestly don't know what I need for my needs - but I'm using an old laptop as my "server" right now and it's beginning to show signs of age.

Thanks!

600 is a very good price. do you know if it is under warranty?

if it is under warranty and you add apple care you could sell it in 6 months for a profit I am pretty sure you could get 700 for it on ebay if it has 18 months or more of apple care left.
