Hi folks,
I'd like to open a discussion about an idea I had about a script/workflow for creating a slimmed down copy of your main iTunes library to the external hd you usually bring with you.
See the diagram in the image attached and tell me your opinion or some hints to code this :)

I've wanted something like this for ages! I have a small internal drive with my whole iTunes library on it, but I'd much rather have a large external drive with my iTunes library on it and a few select playlists copied onto my small internal drive.

I can't program anything more then some crappy PHP, but this is something I've wanted for ages. I'd even pay a bit of $$ for it- $10 is reasonable IMO, but free is best.

Actually, I've been wondering why iTunes hasn't been able to do this yet. I think with music libraries reaching into the 60+ gig range, and hard drives coming as small as 80 gigs, it's certainly something that a lot of people would probably find useful.

Definitely this would be useful! I have had a play with this kind of thing before. Personally I would go for Cocoa (possibly using Applescript to interact with iTunes) as it'll probably be fairly slow anyhow.

I would certainly be prepared to pay $10 or so for it. But if you made it open source I'd be happy to contribute a bit and I'm sure others would too.

wow.. what a nice feedbacks :) It's nice to be not the only one interested into this feature..
by the way.. at the moment, I just designed the graph you see in the image...
Before scripting, I always plan things on paper.... I will starting coding and testing this script/workflow in the next days/nights.. If i will ever end it, I will post it on macosxhints.com (like some other scripts I did)... :) Obviously it will be free :)
