I'm eagerly awaiting the unrestricted version of Sling. I'm not JB so I've not used (or seen) Sling over 3G before so I wanted to get a rough idea on how much data I might consume.
I did a test using my Sprint air-card and Slings current windows client on my laptop. My TWC upload speeds must be better than usual today - I was getting a pretty consistent 490Kbps connection-(better by about 100Kbps than historically usual). Over 30 mins, consumed just under 110megs - so about 220megs/hr.
The video quality when streaming SD content was very good- especially if you shrink the screen size down to the Iphone (tested an iPad screen size as well and it looked pretty good too).
Questions - 1. How close is this to being accurate? 2. Assuming some sort of data governor is built into the iphone sling app, how will this slow the data x-fer rates? Is there some sort of communication to the box that the app has to tell is to slow down?
On a related note, is there a better way to determine your 3G usage than looking at Settings/General/Usage? By my math, assuming its relevant (see Q1), then I'd be able to watch about 20hrs of 3G video a month before hitting the 'unlimited' 5Gig cap.
