I just moved my 2009 Mac Pro from my basement to a room we're going to use as an office. Prior to the move I did an Xfinity speed test and it showed 994 Mbps on my ethernet connection. I have Gigabit ethernet, installed in March 2019. After the move using the same Cat 7 cable I'm getting 300 Mbps, I've checked all the settings I can think of to no avail. I'm on High Sierra using Safari 12.1. I did just install an ssd on a pcie card but that should not make a difference. I tried the same Xfinity test on Chrome and got 774 Mbps, more than double the result on Safari but both are short of the 994 I had before the move. The Mac Pro is an 8 core 2.66 with 56gb of ram, 1066mhz. I'm the original owner. Had Comcast out this morning and they got 903 from the port on the gateway, we tested my cable and got 901. So it seems the issue is the computer and specifically Safari, although Chrome isn't reaching that speed either. I just did a pram reset and got the same result. Does anyone have an idea what I should be looking for? I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have.

if you want to check your internet speed do something like this

your problem can be anything from
internet box
cable to macpro
macpro
something you have installed
add on to web browser
speed test site problem (anything to 'we did not optmise for safari as only 5% of people use it' to 'at that point in time there internet was slow'

as you have only used one website >.> <.< id try a second one

also want to point out that a lot of internet speed websites have been found to cheat so have fun
