Slow interent

Hey! I got a issue my internet is so slow it downloads iat 1.5mbps but i have 30/30 from my ISP. what to do? its connected straight to the Router from my ISP. I dont have a WI-FI ROuter. I do but i dont use it yet. just got it.

Hi there...

Sounds like your iMac and your Router are connected via UTP (wired) connection.

With above in mind, Run Speed Test ( http://www.speedtest.net/index.php?nojs=1 ) and tell us its download and upload numbers. When doing this test, do pick your nearest City (on their map). For example, New York City - if that's your nearst available location.

Also... Tell us when your iMac has slow communications. For example, when doing emails back/forth, only when surfing, only when downloading a file, only while watching YouTube Movies, etc. etc.??? This will help us diagnose the slow communications as well....

Its ben the same on both my imacs i have two just got a new one today. No change. its when i download files from diffrent sites its on about 1.4mb/s all the time. Also some streaming video mostly in 720P and more it wont load properly before i`v watched to the point it hasent continued loading.


Its connected straight to my imac from the wall the routher thing i got from my ISP Its not a wireless router.

Is "11.6M bps Down and 11.24 Mbps up" within reason of your ISP B/W Service?

As a few suggestions, try:

a - Ensure you are using CAT-5 Ethernet cable. Meaining, new cable - not an old cable laying around or purchased from Flea Market.

b - Access your iMac's Preferences - Network and configure with NO IPV6. Having both IPV4 and IPV6 at the same time can cause slowness. By default, Apple enables both. Turn IPV4 ON and IPV6 Off.

c - Within iMac's Preferences - Network, configure your Ethernet with fixed values. For example, Full Duplex, 100 Mbps. If wondering, some routers have difficulties "synching" with their end devices. Using Fixed (static) values makes them synchronized.

d - Within iMac's Preferences - Network, configure with fixed DNS Entires. This will help "speed up" communications as well. re: NS Entries as 08.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220


Try these changes for a few days. Let us know the results after these changes.

If wondering, more "configurations" can be done. The above are only the basics.
