I just got a MBP Retina with great internals and the internet has been very inconsistent -- works well at times, and other times totally stagnates.

It seems to be an issue with safari and chrome on my macbook, but it's not an issue on my windows pc or my phone.

Is this a bug others are experiencing?

Actually I'm on Mavericks 10.9.5 and my internet has been pretty sluggish. Some pages are timing out, no idea why. It's been like that since Sunday but tonight has been pretty bad. I'm on FIOS..not sure if that is what you have?

I had Yosemite briefly when it first came out, it wasn't playing nice with my iMac

"Inconsistant internet" could be way more things than Yosemite. Amongst other things: Check which wifi channel and band the MBP is connecting to, could be different to the PC. Try a cable connection if you can or else power down your other wifi devices and see if it improves. Move closer to the wifi source. Download a free app to scan to see how congested your wifi environment is. Disconnect any BT devices and see if it improves.
