Hello,

I'm trying to figure out why my old MacBook is slow. Opening apps is slow (10+s), the cursor isn't as fast as I'd like it, lags often.

This is the model: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...i7-2.8-13-late-2013-retina-display-specs.html

It's not a new one, but I believe it should still run decently. It's currently running High Sierra.

SMC and NVRAM reset did not solve the issue.
CPU temps: 38 average
SSD temps: 38 average
SSD Health according to DriveDX: 91%
SSD R/W speeds: 700MB/s/250MB/s
Battery has about 500 cycles.
It has fresh CPU paste.
It's a fresh install, no apps beside DriveDX installed.

Is it supposed to be this slow?

Thanks for any input or help.
Mike

if the battery is actually dead or disconnected, performance drops like a stone.

I had a late 2013 rMBP up until a little over a year ago, and it still ran fine without any real issues.

Is this slow new or been going on for a while? Gradual or sudden? I assume you're seeing this all while plugged in with a full battery.

Is it slow opening apps even if no other apps are running? Like is it ever fast anymore or does it just get slow after it has been running for a while? Or say when Safari or another browser is running?

How much RAM does it have? Can you post a screenshot of Activity Monitor's CPU and Memory tabs (View->All Processes)?

Also can you share the output of ‎AmorphousDiskMark? The much slower write than read speeds of your SSD are suspicious for that model.
