I have a MacBook Pro 13" that I bought 2 years ago (2020). I have the latest software Monterey 12.4 and I always grab the latest version. Lately I've been getting occasion hangups where I have to reboot sometimes. Lockups as well. Reminds me of my old days in the Windows world where I would have to reinstall Windows.

I'm wonder if I should consider doing a reinstall of macOS. I really don't have much data that I'm concerned about saving. Does anyone think a reinstall would pop up my MBP?

On Machines running Monterey, it’s impossible for the OS to become corrupted. So reinstalling the OS isn’t going to be a solution. I would look in Activity Monitor for processes that might be running amok.

Thanks. IMO, the computer has been slow before Monterey. I am running Maleware Protection. Do you think that might be the problem?

i was confused that my M1 MacBook Pro took more than a few seconds to load apps, to wake-up and it simply was not zippy overall.
I checked First Aid in Disk Utility and it found something it can't fix. To keep it simple, I backed-up the computer and restored the whole Mac via Restore-Mode and the Timemachine-Backup (deleted the ssd in restore mode)

Now its noticeably faster. Photo starts up in 1 second and Affinity in 3 to 4 seconds

Using the above procedure, can you "restore" pictures and nothing else. I certainly don't want to restore all the crap on my harddrive.

Why don't you disable or remove it for a few days, and see...?

Well check if your Mac is due to an outdated macOS or an overloaded cache. Malware can also infect your Mac and slow it down by hogging system resources. You can check whether either of them is overwhelmed and therefore causing your Mac to slow down in Activity Monitor. Go to Applications > Utilities and launch Activity Monitor. Select the CPU tab. Click on the CPU column header to order processes according to the CPU cycles they're using.
