I took my MacBook in for service back a couple days before Christmas (Thursday if I remember correctly), and they ordered a battery for it. It's still not in, and this is nearly two weeks later. Granted, there were two holidays in between, but that still seems like a long time. Fortunately, I haven't needed it, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had a part taking a whie to come in like that? Especially just a battery...

while i have not needed a part and am sorry to hear about the delay, this is not completely out of the ordinary when it comes to replacing batteries. in fact, it seems you requested probably one of the top five most difficult to get items right now; there is a very large and written about shortage of batteries going around right now. Don't worry too much, I would guess you should have it in a about a week, but why not give a call today and put a bit of a fire under their butt.

Yeah, I called today, and he said he was keeping an eye out for that specifically, and that I should call back if I hadn't heard from him by Friday and he'd see about getting it expedited. I'm just nervous I'll have to go through my first week of school without it, when I need to set up all my links and schedules in it so I'm organized for the rest of the semester.

Couldn't they have put in an ordered for your battery and let you keep your machine in the meantime, and after it arrives give you a ring or something?

It seems so needless to detain your machine at their service centre when it doesn't need to fixed.

Apparently they're not allowed to do things like that. Same deal when I took it in for the staining palm rest, they said they had to keep it there while the part came in. Some ethics deal. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but didn't sound like they had a choice (btw, that time was the Apple Store, while this one's a local dealer).

BTW, I got the computer back about two days after my last post. Turns out it was nothing to worry about, just bad timing on my part.
