I've had slow-jerky scrolling problems with IE--esp on some complex sites-- and hoped Safari would fix this problem. So far, it does speed up page switching, but scrolling is still very slow. I have AT&T Broadband cable internet.

Is this because of only having 640 MB memory? I gather that w/OS X, you no longer give an app more memory. Is this correct?

Help, solutions appreciated.

dual usb iBook; 640 RAM; OS X 10.2

correct. you can not give an app more memory. it takes what it needs and OS X makes sure of that.

BUT, it sounds like you may have alot of something else in the background. it the page still loading whilst you try to scroll??

if all else fails, reboot (if you havent tried that)

if that dont work and you dont mind loosing your bookmarks, try trashing your prefs file.

if that dont work. make sure you are using the latest download (v51). if so, try re-downloading it.

and if all above conditions are met. BUG SUBMIT.

and lots of em. good luck

This may also be because of her computer. She mentioned that she has a Dual USB iBook, which is not the best machine at scrolling tasks (I have one, see sig.), though I may think this because I was used to my PC being able to scroll very complex sites effortlessly. However, the iBook should scroll decently well with that much ram and 10.2, so try the options in the above post.

you have a pc? wait josh i thought you only had macs.......

scrolling in safari is pretty decent on an 800mhz iBook with 128mb ram...

Compared to when I had Crashzilla, Safari is a gift.

Then, again, I only have scroll problems when I scroll a page real fast. Those problems are, however, minimal for me, since I don't care to read the text stutter-zooming by on the page.

I've got a 700 iBook dual USB and only 256 MB of RAM and have no scrolling problems. Safari is about as fast as I've seen in a browser. Can't wait for it to get out of Beta.

Hi - I'm in the AppleSeeding program, so if you could tell me what I'd need to do ( a specific URL or something) so I could re-create it, then I would be able to send a bug report to Apple directly -- and know I've/you've been heard. Thanks!

Shadowfax:

What is an AppleSeeding program?

Here is the site I have most problems with--granted, it's a hum-dinger w/lots of iconography & complexity, built by a PC guy....For me, participating in the forums is such a drag because it takes FOREVER to scroll down a list of posts, etc. Before I got Safari & was using IE, the process of simply going from page to page took forever; but at least that's improved now.
Another Mac user on the forum who got Safari says she's not having scrolling problems, but I don't know which Mac she uses.

So, the problem is worst w/this site, but still present to one degree or another at othr sites.
