Slow Shutdown with Yosemite

I did some research, read that Parallels might be the issue, so I fully uninstalled it (used the guide on the parallels website), unfortunately it hasn't made any difference.

I also get this weird UI glitch, where as it's shutting down the dock, as it should, goes down but gets stuck half way and then after 10-20 seconds the screen goes black and displays the loading circle before it shuts down.

I presume some app isn't shutting down properly, anyone know any issues?

I'm not sure if posting my installed applications would be useful, let me know, thanks.

My 2009 Mac Pro with clean installed Yosemite does the same thing - dock stucks half way. The shutdown only takes 6 - 8 seconds for me. After the Dock gets stuck halfway, display goes offline after a second or two, then the Mac turns off.

I turned off FileVault and the dock doesn't get stuck anymore, but it still takes a while to actually shut down.

Found this online. I'm not the original author. I also used fiplab's disk doctor to clean out the caches.
Try this, it fixed it for me.

Turn off wifi

Open keychain

Locate your WiFi keychain entry and delete it from keychain. Delete all occurrences you can find for it in keychain.

Restart your mac

Reconnect to your wifi network you will need to enter your wifi pass code. Let it connect and then try and restart. And see if it has improved the slow shutdown. It fixed mine and now takes around 1-2 second to switch off.

Try this, it fixed it for me.

don't have keychain turned on so don't think that's my issue. I have narrowed it down to me using Remote Desktop, whenever I do I cannot shut down properly, if I don't I have no trouble...go figure.

Well so much for that advice. This installation is taking 30+ seconds to turn off. I was at the apple store for a different matter, and the genius did say that the slow shut down is a known bug in Yosemite. Not that it matters when we were happy on Maverick's shut down times. Almost instant. So very nice.

yes, even with maveriks some times in some version the shut down took about 10 sec

hi guys, I am experiencing a slow shutdown, I see the black screen and the spinning wheel for 20-ish seconds before the actual shutdown, must be some kind of lazy process on the background. I have installed parallels yesterday, but the issue was there before then so I don't think it's related (also I have never installed paralleles before).

Has anyone tried this tool yet?

Have you got fuse For Mac/NTFS-3G installed?

I've been having slow shutdown times since Mavericks and continued into yosemite.

Just found the issue was due to this software, once I uninstalled them my shutdown time was back to 1 second.

I tried installing the Paragon NTFS trial version and this gives the NTFS write access but maintains the quick shutdown times (costs $20 for the full version compared to free for the fuse/NTFS-3G option)

Back to roughly one second with Yosemite (with reopen applications at restart disabled). Suffered as most people around here from the terrible shutdown times when using 10.8.3 through 10.9.5. So I actually was quite surprised that Apple figured out handling the network/Wifi time outs shown quite regulary in the boot logs..
