I was wondering what causes slow shutdowns? Because I've noticed (since installing 10.4.5 actually) that my computer takes a while to shut down. Before it only took a few seconds.

Also, my AirPort signal takes a while to show up (and sometimes it doesn't show up AT ALL, requiring a logout or restart). I was wondering if this could be related somehow...

Thank you.

how slow is slow? I wouldn't really worry about it unless it's the difference between 10 seconds and 10 minutes. My mac was instant on/off when i first got it but now it's settled at probably 40 seconds - 1 minute on, and 20-30 seconds to shut down.

Same thing happened with both my G4 iMac and PB since upgrading to 10.4.4. It used to take about 5 seconds (give or take) for them to shut down, now, going from .4.3 to .4.4 it takes about 30 seconds. Not long, but definitely longer than before. I wonder why?

Sorry no answers samanthas, but you're not alone

Is your airport signal weird too? I'm really hoping that Apple releases another update soon, because 10.4.5 is being a pain in the you know what.

I haven't noticed any real speed decrease/increase. It took probably 10 minutes to start up after the update though. That scared me quite a bit.

I don't use my airport at home (iMac) and have yet to, since the update, on my PB, but I'll try tomorrow when I take it to work.

Okay so, I made an Admin account a couple days ago and I tested it by shutting it down and it was normal -- very fast. My standard account I use everyday takes like 30 seconds though.

People who are having problems... can you test yours as well?

I only use admin accounts. :(

**EDIT**
Tried AirPort today at work, and it was a bit funky. Don't know if it was the router, or the airport card in my PB/OS 10.4.4 doing it, but there were 4 bars, then 1 then 3, then 1, then 4 all day long on my airport indicator in the menu bar, without moving my computer. Sometimes it would load things very fast, and other times I would have to click on links 3 or 4 times before the safari address bar would change and the page would load. So overall I have no idea what's going on, but yeah it appears that my airport is a bit wonky too.
