Slow SSD from Apple?

I just bought a 15" MBP with a 256 GB SSD from Apple. I know that it's probably better to have bought my own SSD so I could choose it and make sure I was getting a good value, but I figured it would be easier/less of a hassle to just buy it pre-installed and save the trouble.

So I ran some tests on it with XBench and I think that I have a pretty slow one...anyone else have any stats on what SSD they got with their MBP? There doesn't seem to be much info on this and what Apple actually sends.

Profiler states that it's a Model: APPLE SSD TS256A. Presumably the TS is a Toshiba. Here are the stats:

So the real question is--did I get screwed with a slower SSD from Apple? It looks like it's about 120/100 read/write......and most of the new ones seem to be around 220/200....significantly faster. But how well do those perform according to their actual ratings?

This is a really high reading from Xbench on mine. I'd say dont' trust these numbers too literally. They vary quite a bit.

Run it a few times and get an average time...XBench can jump all over the place on its readings. If they continue to hover around that 100 mb/s range then I would absolutely look into getting it swapped. That's unacceptable, IMHO.

...at least its covered by your applecare so when it breaks later you're not out of more $$ and hopefully they'll replace it with something faster at that time...

Does it feel faster than a machine with a HDD, if so then don't worry about the benchmarking tests...

That is fairly low, compared to high end SSD's.

Your overall disk test is 173.51, I consistently get over 380, but then again I do have the #1 SSD in the world being the Intel X25-E.

Honestly, you will probably enjoy your SSD, even if it isn't a benchmark monster. Next time however make sure you do some research before bitting the bullet and buying.

As of now the only SSD's to buy are intel, namely the X25-M second Gen series. If you have money to burn however and want to have the #1 SSD in performance AND reliability (but certainly not capacity) go for the X25-E series.
