I know this is a common thing and I have searched the internet and tried the resolutions but nothing works. In fact some mention that in Catalina this is resolved but this is not the case for me. The issue is simple, I cannot get more than about 14MB/s (112Mb/s) copying files (ISO for this test) from my 2019 Mac mini to My 2015 iMac. Here is the setup:
Router - Asus RT-AX88U router using 5Ghz wifi only for wireless connections. Other connection are all full gigabit
Mac mini 2019 - This is a hardwired Mac that has wifi disabled.
iMac 2015 - This is wireless on 5Ghz to the Asus RT-AX88u
Action - Copy 4GB from iMac (5Ghz Wireless) to Mac Mini (1 Gigabit wired)
I have full 1GB internet service.
When I do an internet speed test from the Mac mini (wired), I get consistent speeds of 920Mb/s (115MB/s) down and 41Mb/s (5MB/s) up. The upload for internet speed test is limited to 40Mb/s because that is the max upload that Comcast offers.
When I do an internet speed test from the iMac I get consistent speeds of 350Mb/s (43.75MB/s) download and 41Mb/s (5MB/s) up. Again the upload is limited by Comcast.
Both machines where the data is stored that I'm copying are using NVMe SSD storage that hits at minimum 400Mb/s write and 400Mb/s read on a disk speed test.
So when I copy a file as described from the iMac (5Ghz wireless) to the Mac mini (1GB Wired), I get max of 14MB/s (112Mb/s) on the transfer which obviously makes no sense. In the Sharing settings I have SMB enabled but not AFP.
I am determined to find a solution to this as it doesn't make any sense other than there are issues with MacOS. When I copy files over this same type of setup Windows to Windows, the speeds are much, much better. I also have a 2016 MacBook Pro and have the same issues outlined above. I am really looking for a solution to this issue that has plagued me for a very long time. Neither of these machines had previous MacOS versions as I always do a clean install when new MacOS is released. Total wipe and reload of system and all apps.
I am really looking for some help with this. Any information or guidance appreciated. Thanks.
