Typing in powerpoint is awfully slow in some documents.
Difference is easiest to see if you type fast in word the test appears in a smooth stream in according to you typing while in powerpoint it coms in clumps of text (10 to 20 charaters).

Microsoft suggest to move the documents to a new user account and continue from there:

With all settings I will have to reapply I don't want to migrate all my files to a new account. Any other suggestions?

Which version of Mac Office does this occur? Also, how many slides are there in the PPTX document? As for the advice given by MS, if you installed Office for all users, you should be able to do as they suggest with a test document.

You should still try setting up a new user account and see how it performs there – if it’s fine, you know it's a problem with some preferences or something (fonts only installed for you?). If you have the same problem in the other user account then you know it’s either hardware or something system-level. It works fine on my 2017 iMac (PowerPoint 2016, that is)

In the guest account it is ok
I have the latest High Sierra and office versions (10.13.4 and 16:13)

I guess my question is what files to update?
I have no duplicates fonts.
