I received my 11.6 base model Air today. So far everything has rocked about it except for one thing: web surfing. When it loads up pages it jitters when I scroll or will lag on my input. I'm thinking this could either be my WiFi connection, which is my parent's and I'm not use to these speeds, or if the Air is just not that good for web work.

Thanks guys

What kind of sites are they? Sometimes even my iMac lags when accessing sites with heavy Flash content.

He's talking about the hideous vsync in OSX, I think. Hopefully new drivers will make it better soon.

Yeah my 2006 MacBook pro doesn't do it either but the 11.6 does. Gotta be 320m drivers. New software should fix it and hopefully soon.

Get google chrome. See if it's still slow.

Vsync issue? My MBA is performing perfectly. Admittedly, I have noticed a very clear "interlacing" (?) (faint horizontal lines across the width of the screen), especially on images, but I haven't had an issue with vsync.

Get google chrome. See if it's still slow.

Chrome renders on an almost identical engine of Safari (slight improvement/enhancements, but still the same Webkit engine). Unless it's a permissions issue, I highly doubt using an identical-engine web browser would solve the problem in this case; still worth a try though!

for safari:
http://clicktoflash.com/

or try camino web browser: (very fast...and can turn off flash and ads in pref)
http://caminobrowser.org/
I agree that it's a good idea to install a utility that will prevent Flash from loading until and unless you tell it to do so. I use the Chrome browser with AdBlock and FlashBlock extensions. I have never seen any weird graphics on my 134 inch MBA. Better yet, I have been gettting very good battery life.

I've used Chrome on it, and it was even slower than Firefox. Firefox with Flashblock has been the most consistent browser so far, except that it still has a little jitter problems. I'd really hate to have to take this thing back, but I think it's kind of unacceptable for a $1000, unless there is an update in the pipeline.

i really would try camino (think of it as firefox light)

is your air 2mb mem model? maybe turning off dashboard and or spotlight might help?

-To turn Dashboard off: use terminal

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect.

killall Dock

-To turn Spotlight off: use terminal

cd /etc
sudo nano hostconfig
SPOTLIGHT=-NO-
ctrl-x
y
enter

Then to get rid of the existing index, run these two commands
sudo mdutil -i off /
sudo mdutil -E /

reboot computer

No, this has nothing to do with Flash, or anything he's running really. Well, if you do scroll a page that has flash stuff on it, it will jitter more but it does this even on something as simple as these forums.

I've noticed the same thing with 11.6", and I think slow CPU is to blame, or at least lack of more aggressive CPU throttling by OSX. To a lesser degree I was seeing the same problem on 13" model until I installed CoolBook and set the throttling on High. That has helped significantly, and I can see the CPU increase up to 1800 instantly while I'm scrolling.

Before I did that, I'd just open any regular webpage with nothing animated or fancy on it, like these forums for example, and it would jitter when I'd try scrolling up or down.

This sounds like what I'm having. So is throttling the only cure? Or can this be updated through a software update. It's kind of upsetting, knowing I paid top dollar only to have a gaping flaw that people aren't talking about.

Who ever suggested Safari, was right on the money. Just a trace of lagginess on Engadget when using Safari, everything else running perfectly. I'm not a big fan of Safari (minimum of one day history save without manual intervention is a big one), but it's great for the choppiness.
