I recently got a new draft-N router(D-Link DIR655), to replace my old Linksys Wireless B router. Its working great, I have been running speed tests under many different conditions.

I've been using speedtest.net for my iMac and the speedtest.net app on my iPhone.

On my hardwired iMac, I hit around 15-16Mbits with both my old router and the new one, which is expected. I unplugged the ethernet cable and turned airport on, and I hit the same speeds through airport(~16Mbits).

On my iPhone, however, I am only hitting speeds of around 4Mbits. I have not tried any other iPhones on my network. I don't see what could be holding back the speed on my iPhone but not my iMac. I could be wrong. I have gotten upto 16Mbits on my iPhone on other networks.

Your iphone can only utilize a certain amount of speed through wifi. Its pretty obvious that a computer would be faster than the iphone. Its just how it is.

what type of iPhone do you have? if it is not a 3gs, then the most you can get on your phone is around 4mbps, so what you are getting is about right. Even the 3gs can only us about 7.2, whereas your iMac can utilize up to 300mbps... don't worry about it

That's consistent with what I see.
On my computer: 12Mbps down
On my iPhone: 4Mbps down

It's normal. A phone just won't be able to match a PC in download speed at this point.

I have the same thing happen. I get 12Mbps on my mac pro and only 1Mbps aprox on my iPhone.

Also I did a speed test at the apple store while waiting in line, and the needle was slammed at 10, and the actual speed it said was like 18Mbps. I know you probably don't believe me. I had a screen shot, but had to restore my phone (as a new phone) so it erased all that stuff. next time I'm there I'll do it again and upload a screen shot. I even asked the guy what kinda internet they have. he said they're on a backbone or something so it's super fast.
