My wifi has been chronic and I’ve been blaming the ISP but it’s not !

I’m using SPEED TEST . NET on Mac book and the ST app on mobile devices.

I’m running Big Sur on a 2017 MacBook and iOS 14 on iPad Air and iPhone 11 Pro Max

all 3 devices running off an apple AirPort Extreme with 4tb WD Red 6th gen tall style.

the Mac book gets between 274- 359mb from a 350mb service.

the iPhone 11 15mb dead , won’t go over 15mb at all, shoots up to 15mb in a nanosecond and tops out.

the iPad Air 5mb dead and won’t go over ( same story as iPhone ).

annoying as all the YouTube contents is displayed at 144p and just spin wheels constantly on iPad.

Seems like a one-off bug to me. It’ll most likely be fixed in a later beta. If it’s not fixed after a while, then you could try resetting your device. If it’s really annoying you that much, then you should probably go back to iOS 13. Betas are going to be buggy, and the only thing we can do is file a bug report and try to solve it ourselves while we wait.

Running modern devices off an Airport Extreme is like putting a 4-cylinder engine in a Corvette - there's not enough bandwidth to take advantage of any decent internet connection.

I get my ISPs max download when running Speedtest. Not sure why your phone is capping at 15Mbps. Maybe something on that network is rate limiting phones? No idea, but here at home my 11 Pro Max running iOS 14 dev beta 1 is getting full wifi speeds.

Did you try the basic troubleshooting? Restart router/modem, restart iPhone/iPad, restore iOS on your devices?

Did all that multiple times and speed would jump to around what you'd expect ( 350mb on 11 pro ) then back to 15mb top out. All i can put it down to is something screwing up with the Beta as this has only arrisen since the install of the new OS. I have for sake of testing changed the channels on the airport from the default , i have no reports just yet if things have yet improved.

Don’t use a apple AirPort Extreme in 2020 and expect wonders
Can i ask what are wonders ? I am running 350mb and the unit is rated for 1300mb. The time capsule is hardwired to the ISP's modem with CAT8 to improve transfers from one to the other. I have 5 Gen6 Airports ( 1 per station hardwired running 1 iMac or Mac Mini ). The downstairs retains the 2.4ghtz and the upstairs the 5ghtz which is shared from another time capsule to the remaining 3 AA gen6's.

The net in the upstars of the property sits quiet pretty at 300-320mb , the downstairs well over the 350mb as subscribed.

Is this is wrong setup to have I don't know ? It works for me or has been working for past 3 years of using them.

Eric

iOS 14.1 has ruined my wifi responses on my iPhone SE 2020 yet iPadOS 14.1 seems to be OK on my iPad Pro (10.5-inch). To do anything on the iPhone now I have to turn off wifi and rely on my mobile signal.

On the former I’ve turned it off and on again and also carried out a hard reset and, in desperation, even tried rebooting the router in case there was a glitch (although I can’t think of how there could be) affecting only the iPhone and not the iPad or my two iMacs.

You are not alone, rhet7660, so let’s hope that a bug fix comes soon.

In the meantime, does anyone have a workaround or solution?

Thought i was the only one. The good news is I get over 100mpbs over 5G on my Pro Max per Ookla. The bad news is I only get about 40mpbs on wi-fi. My 11 pro typically got about 300 mbps.

just wondering if OP has found a resolution for this?

i have 2x Time Capsules (2TB and 3TB). 1 is connected to my 1Gbps connection as the main unit, routing and backups.

one is connected to the other via ethernet. hardwired in on either device on my MacBook Pro 2015 running latest Big Sur, i get close to 1Gbps connection. wireless on the MacBook Pro is about 500-600Mbps.

as soon as my iPad Air (4th Gen) or iPhone 12 PM connect, wireless is super slow in comparison. 100-150Mbps, even on the MacBook Pro.

i've reset network settings on both iPad and iPhone. still the same. issue is not ISP.

any ideas?

Just for the record. Running iOS 14.4 with Airport Extreme 6th gen. and still limited to several meters from the router for the iPhone and Homepods to get quick response from each other. Otherwise it becomes very sluggish when I’m trying to play next song or adjust the volume.
But it was much worse at the initial release of iOS 14.0.
