I have a netgear router (wireless -G, 108mbps) hooked up to a Time Capsule.

The router is set so that it doesn't send out a wireless signal - that's done by the TC.

Recently, our internet seems incredibly slow. Using speedtest.net, I'm getting speeds of between about 1.5 and 2.5 Mbps, very occasionally dropping lower. But the ping time is very slow- from 500ms to well over 1000 and occasionally up to 3000ms. Web pages load very slowly.

It's even worse when using an iPhone. Both our iPhone 4 and 3GS register download speeds that rarely go over 100kbs.

The connection when wired is much better, so I assumed that the TC was the problem. Unplugging for a while and restarting the TC, the connection was fast for a few minutes and then slowed down again. I've tried this twice, with the same result.

So then I tried using the netgear wireless, and the issue was similar.

I'm pulling my hair out - any ideas? I live in a rural area, so there's not too much interference.
The neighbours have wireless networks, but they are on channels 11 and 6, we are on channel 9 (and our TC is wireless n while their networks are g - although with the iPhone 3GS around I assume ours drops down to g). Our signal-noise ratio seems decent (right now it's -66 dBm / -91 dBm)

Any ideas?

This may help

So i was having the EXACT same problem and saw that you asked your question not too long ago. I had some styrofoam next to my desktop and as soon as i moved it my connection went from 11 mbps to 54 and stayed there. Maybe you have something conducting static electricity next to your router? or the TC?

styrofoam? Weird - never knew that!

This particular problem did in the end turn out to be ISP related (my wired and unwired tests were too unscientific to begin with) but I will keep the cup story in mind!
