Slower Startup w/ 2 GB RAM

I bought a base model MBP w/ 1 GB ram. Startup time was about half a minute.

Last week I added an additional gig, PC 5300 667Mhz Kingston ValueRAM. Now the startup time is about one minute.

What happened? Help is much appreciated.

May have a bad ram chip. Insert disc one of your grey CDs that came with your computer. Hold down "d" while booting. When you get in there run an extended test. It will let you know if you have a bad RAM chip.

Use OnyX or something to clear your caches, reset PRAM and try again.

There is a minor amount of time needed to do the POST on the extra RAM but you shouldn't be experiencing a doubling just because of adding the RAM.

Run Rember (look for it on versiontracker.com) to check that your new RAM is all OK.

Where is the delay?

If it is from pushing the power button to seeing the grey screen, then I would say that it is likely the additional time needed to check the RAM. If it is between the spinning grey thing and the login screen (or desktop if you use autologin) I would definitely take a moment to boot off the CD and check the RAM. You added 2x the RAM to check on startup, and start-up time roughly doubled. That seems par for the course to me. Its a small trade-off for the added speed everywhere else

i checked it and it seems to be fine, the time increase is between the grey screen and the apple logo showing up so i dont think its much of a problem. thanks guys

Did you recently install a Boot Camp partition? I find that there's a little bit of a delay (that wasn't there before) when it has mutiple boot partitions. It might actually purposely pause there to give the user time to hold down the option key to make a startup drive change. just a thought, maybe that will help.
