SLS not my own MobileMe server?

i was kind of under the impression, or maybe it was just wishful thinking, that Snow Leopard Server was essentially going to provide the means to, among other things, have my own MobileMe server. Contact/Calendar/Mail push to iPhone, Macs, and PCs.

Mail push is kind of there from what I understand. Calendar functionality is mostly there, but not quite up to an Exchange/MobileMe level. Contact push is non-existent from what I read on the Apple Discussion forums.

I've been holding out for SLS because, based on the pretty marketing stuff, this is the impression I was left with. I thought Mobile Access Server was another name for most of what was in MobileMe. But I guess I'm way wrong.

So, am I holding my breath for nothing? If I want MobileMe/Exchange functionality should I just setup a MS SBS server or Kerio?

I'm looking to replace my exchange server with SLS.

Thanks for the bump. From what I've been able to tell here, and in the Apple discussion forums on SLS, it certainly looks to be no replacement for MobileMe or Exchange. Sad, very sad. It does some very cool stuff, but these functions are the basics I'm looking for. Google is doing (mostly) what I need and it's free. So I guess I'll stick with it for now.

It's unfortunate that Apple's own server product can't serve the functions it's iPhone is able to provide to the fullest. While it might cost them some revenue to package MobileMe and bundling it in SLS, it seems like they would gain in the long run in terms of Enterprise street cred.

Perhaps in an update some of these functionalities will be added. Seems like they could just license ActiveSync in the server and make it all Apple pretty. isn't that what they've done with MM?

I don't think that Snow Leopard server offers everything that Exchange offers. The web site only mentions Push for Calendar and Mail. You might be able to accomplish access to contacts with the Mobile Access server

If you are looking for a full Exchange or groupware solution, you might want to consider Kerio Mail Server

Mobile Me uses a different system since it works differently if you are on a Mac versus a Pc. On the windows side, it does use exchange services, but not on the Mac.

I realize there is a difference between what I want and what I can get. But what I want is what Exchange can do in terms of calendar, contacts, and mail, plus all of the coolness that is already in SLS, all for a flat $500. No seat licenses, no annual subscriptions, blah blah blah.

SLS offers some great "inside" services that make it stand out. I just with it's "outside" services were as nicely polished. I've been waiting for 10.6 server hoping it would deliver. Oh well. Like I said, maybe later.

The closes thing that you can get is the Mobile access services, but as you have discovered, that doesn't offer Push. The address book server is still a bit young though.
