Model I have: MacBook Pro 2019 TouchBar 13 inch, 1.4Ghz (3.9Ghz boost clock), 8GB RAM, 256GB Storage. Running on Mac OS 10.14.6 (Latest version (excluding beta Catalina) as of writing)
Let the video do the description.
https://streamable.com/o4qqi - Chrome
https://streamable.com/o7m82 - Safari

Note: To reproduce, you MUST open some heavy sites such as Facebook (your home page), YouTube (with video playing) and so on as current tab and resize.

Please try to reproduce it according to the steps given above and vote the poll if you're free enough to do so.

This problem is not limited to browser, another example is Eclipse Java IDE.

I have tried to run few emulators at a time and there's no lag at all (Except resizing window). And so I believe it is not a hardware problem. I have confirmed this problem with a few of my friends who owns a MacBook, they are facing the exact same problem as I have here.

I have contacted Apple Support and I have gone through all of the possible remote troubleshoots. None of these resolve the issue.
  1. Change user account
  2. Boot to safe mode
  3. Rest SCM, NVRAM
  4. Clear browser's cache
  5. Disable all of the browser's extensions
  6. Re-install Mac OS without losing the data
  7. Clean install Mac OS
  8. Reduce motion in "Settings->Accessibility->Display"
So, question is. Is everybody having this issue or me and my friends are isolate case (Which is impossible to be such coincidence)? I am here to decide whether I should take it to Apple Store or not, because if all of the Apple PC having the same problem, I don't want to waste my time.

Update: Went to Apple Store, all of the display units over there is having the same problem and asked the staff over there, they said it is normal.

I think that sluggish animation is normal, it is just an optic ilusion when web content is bein resized.
So what you mean is you are having the same problem as well?
I have sent the video sample to Apple Support and they said it is not normal at all, it is supposed to be fluid. That's what the Apple Support said to me.

optic ilusion
And obviously it is not any kind of optic illusion. It is just straight up lag. Have you seen how Windows 10 handle the resize? Although the content within the browser is not re-rendered, but the frame is following the cursor exactly without any lag.

For me is kind of normal, I guess it depends on the web content you are browsing. I use firefox and it happens also with certain websites.
If you dont see any slugginesh in let's say when resize finder window then your mac is prob fine.

The way how macOS handles window resizing is expensive, since it requires the app to perform the UI layout and redraw the content continuously as it’s being resized. For content where layout computation is expensive, you will see a performance drop. It depends on the app, how well it’s coded, and how efficient it can do these things. Eclipse is a massive resource hog and it’s drawing model is extremely inefficient. Complex websites are very difficult to layout. Another example of a “bad” app in this regard is the old Mac App Store.

Some other OSes appear smoother simply because they don’t continuously redraw. They just freeze the window and update the app state only after the window has been resized.

To sum it up, what you are seeing is a known quirk of macOS. It’s just more sensitive to apps having good redraw performance since it’s draw model is more expensive. Another area where it’s noticeable is in mission control because all windows are redrawn in real time. SwiftUI might improve tings once people start using it.

And yet, Apple do not want to admit it and keep telling me that it is not normal at all which makes me really worry about it.

Absolutely yes, that's why I stated "must be heavy websites"

Anyways, I am visiting Apple store tomorrow then I will try to replicate the same thing on their demo units.

So basically both of you are having the same lag right? Just want to make sure I'm not alone.

I have the same macbook and it's super annoying.

This is actually what i think is happening. For example if you use some newer version of ubuntu based OS the resizing is satisfyingly smooth with neat fade animation. I really thought Macs wouldn't have this problem since iOS animations are light years ahead of android in terms of smoothness. Maybe if we write a suggestion to some apple department they might fix it.
