iPod Sluggish iPod. Normal?

Hey everyone. I have a 160GB iPod Classic that I bought in August of 2008. I was originally waiting for the update to come out, but then I started to wonder if Apple might make a change I wouldn't like. Fortunately, I made a good decision. I have been using it ever since, but there is one problem that I find kind of annoying. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal, or if this is something that developed due to a couple of inevitable drops.

Basically, my iPod is sluggish when I navigate. It'll take a few seconds before I can freely scroll around. Occasionally, it'll take a few seconds before it starts playing as well. I have also noticed a part of the hard drive move right before it lets me navigate like normal. I know the iPod does not disable the scroll wheel because I can get it to move some, but it doesn't really read me until I feel the inside piece move.

Something else that I have noticed is that a couple of my songs appear to be corrupted, and, when I hit the back button to replay a song before it is over, it will cut off the first half second of the song. I do not remember how my iPod performed before I dropped it the first time, but I am trying to figure out if this is a firmware problem, or if it is a hardware problem that resulted from shock. I have also been having computer trouble lately, so I haven't tried clearing it out and reinstalling all of the updates. If this sounds familiar to anybody, I would be very appreciative of some information.
 
Hey, I had the same sort of problems with a iPod, but I think mine was because it had been in my pocket and rubbing up against my magnetic office key card thing! (you know those cards to open doors) anyway I plugged it into my computer and re-set it! After that all the songs went back to normal and worked perfectly! If it doesn't work I'd try taking it to an apple store and see what they say! Always been very helpful to me! :)
 
Well, Classics have always had the issue of lag, simply due to them using hard disks as opposed to flash memory. So, for all I know, it might not be an issue of dropping it at all.

In any case, you'll soon get used to it. I was originally frustrated with my Ipod Classic 80GB for the same reasons, but now I wub it. :rolleyes:
 
I had a feeling the lag was just because of the hard drive, but I wasn't sure because I didn't remember my old 30GB lagging like this. Oh well, it's not a big problem, but it does get annoying. And sadly, seeing as I've been using this over a year, I doubt I'll get over it. :p Thanks for the help guys.
 
That's a great idea Smokestack. I never even thought about trying to defrag it. I'll try to do that as soon as possible. Thanks for the suggestion!
