i have a 2.0GHZ, 1GB RAM macbook, and after under a months usage it seems really sluggish! it worked lightening fast until i went to london for the week and didnt use my mac. after coming back the spinning beach ball appears more often and it seems really sluggish! what do you think could cause the problem?

Hmm, is you HDD maybe getting full? That's often the cause of my mac slowing down.

No otehr ideas though. Did it just suddenly become slow after you came back? Does startup take longer than usual?

ive only used 24GB of the HD, so its not jam packed, start up is just as quick, it just seems dead sluggish whenever i run programs such as iPhoto, safari, or to be honest anything!

whats page out? ive opend up activity mointer but i'am still not sure

Did you go to the link Eidorian pointed you to? Page outs indicate how much data is being brought in from / pushed out to your hard drive.

If the page in/out is high, it indicates lots of different processes are working on lots of data, which can ultimately manifests as sluggish behavior.

What are your page in/out numbers?

ive been through the troubleshooting section of "macbooks for dummies" and it seems to speeded back up! mabye it was just teething troubles after id left it for a week. will keep my eye on it.
