Virtue Desktops has a built in smackbook type thing. Its the easiest way.

I would recommend using the Shadowbook. It uses the light sensors instead of the motion sensor. I like it because i dont feel guilty after i hit my Powerbook. I also think shadowbook is quicker. Just a personal preference.

Thanks guys. I installed shadowbook, but found myself just swinging with nothing happening... I'm on a MacBook if it makes a difference.

Umm yea, The shadow book needs a light sensor and i dont think the Macbook has one. Only the MBP does. Sorry bout that.

So i guess you will have to go with the smackbook

is the shadowbook a stand alone? or does it need the virtual desktop thing a long with it?

I think virtue desktops has a built in shadowbook type thing, but when i try to use it for my powerbook it doesnt work very well.

The other way to do it is using virtue desktops and another program called shadow book, which is on the link above. It works very well and uses minimal system resources.

Edit: But to answer your question, it is not a stand alone app.

Heres how i set up my smackbook

I downloaded virtue desktops (http://virtuedesktops.info/index.php/downloads/)

I Downloaded the ams tracker (http://osxbook.com/software/sms/amstracker/)

and downloaded the smackbook folder (http://blog.medallia.com/2006/05/smacbook_pro.html) go to where the comments start and click the "Heres a self contained zip file of the above patches."

Next drag the ams tracker into the smackbook folder

then go to your terminal (utilities/terminal) and type the following

cd "and then the folder directory", you can just drag the folder into the terminal after you enter cd (but make sure there is a space after cd.) then hit return

next type perl smack.pl

and you should get a AMS hardware working or that sort of thing. Then open virtue desktops, and set the motion senson as high or low as you want.

If this doesnt work or you are having trouble just send me a message.

Glad to help.

I used Smackbook for all of 5 minutes until I realized it is really bad to hit your MacBook dozens, if not, hundreds of times a day. Not good.

Although your idea seems logical, i dont think (but ready to be corrected) that hitting the side of your screen will cause any serious damage to your macbook. Now if you were hitting the hard drive it may could cause damage. I wouldnt be to concerned about installing smackbook as long as your not hitting the hard drive.

I have smackbook in my blackbook and use it almost everyday, ive been using it since april and see no bad effects.

But anyhoo
