I purchased the M1 MBP 14" back in March and I have had a good experience until I found a dust size spec of something on my screen. I tried to wipe it off with a microfiber cloth and it wouldn't come off. After taking close up pictures with my phone I came to the conclusion that my screen was chipped by something. I mostly use my computer at my desk and when I occasionally bring it out, I have it in a protective case so I don't understand how easily this could happen.

I made a Genius Bar appointment and was inspected and quoted as a under warranty fix, but when it got inspected after shipping, it was denied to be under warranty and I have to pay completely out of pocket for the damage. This is so frustrating after purchasing such an expensive product.

Same thing happened on my 2018 MacBook Pro 13. These screens seems very delicate.

Did you continue using it with your screen like this or were you able to get it repaired?

fortunately for me it was on the bezel area. Apple denied repair saying it was cosmetic damage.

I feel for you. My 13" M1 MBP has a chip as well, but it was caused by my parrot. Luckily, it's in an area around the bezels, not a general viewing spot. I'm just letting the chip be, it doesn't bother me.

Out of curiosity, how large is that chip in real life for naked eye? Can you actually feel pit in that position?
I just yesterday cleaned my under two weeks old MBP 14" which I initially did not notice and marks or scratches but I actually found now one very very small mark. It can be only seen with flashlight using certain angles and it looks like small dot with kind of a scratch that is more like inverted U-shape (so not like normal wipe marks with straight line but it kinda takes turn and the back). But to me it still looks more like a very small scratch rather than pit and viewing from different angles surface looks flat with not sign of pit, just scratch in certain angles. It is like under 2 millimeters sized.
Now I really can't say for sure if it was there already from the factory if I just missed it during my initial check... I have already used rubber bulb type air blower for my screen and keyboard before closing the lid, so there could not have been anything larger than small almost microscopic sized dust specs left.

Did you get this resolved?

I have a similar issue, took it into the local Apple Store, genius booked it in for a screen replacement and has sent it off.

Now I am worried that the repair centre will send it back unrepaired or charge me the £615 repair cost that is currently £0 as covered under warranty?

Help!

I decided to not get the repair and they sent it back to me. It still bothers me even though it has been almost half a year since this happened.

Did they charge you in the end or replace the screen? I would have thought they would have told you upfront on the initial inspection?

So, had an email saying device has been repaired and will ship soon. No mention of any charge though - will wait and see when it arrives

Had a 2019 16" this happened too in multiple places on the screen. Had the screen replaced and it returned. All my prev MacBook Pro's never had this issue. As yet to encounter this issue on my 16" M1 MacBook Pro
