Small defect on my new C2D MBP

So I got the high-end stock 15" C2D and LOVE it.

But after a day of use I noticed that there is a minor problem with one of my keys (danish key "ø"). The key works, it has light and registres when you type. But it's just a little bit harder to puch down than the rest, and it makes a "click" noice unlike the others. It's so little that you almost don't notice it, and I can live with it. But having bought a $3k system that's still under warranty I guess I want the key fixed.

So to my question. I got it from apples webstore and they are closed for the weekend so I can't call them. But I know that there arn't any applestores in Denmark, but we have 2 Humac stores. Is Humac the same as an Applestore or is that another company?

Can I take the mbp to a humac store and have they key replaced (using my apple warranty?) - also, since the keyboard is backlit, do they have to change the entire thing or can you still just replace a single key?

Is it possible to change a single key without having to change the whole the whole board? And is Humac stores the same as Applestores, meaning will the fix it for free under the warranty?

Your macbook is OK, I assure you. Try popping the key out and putting it back in. sometimes the keys arent put in very nicely and just dont feel right.

I remember my ibook G4 had a slanted spacebar. that was bad. eventually I ripped it, bent the wirey thing and put it back. voila, it was straight!

But back to your key: It should have no wiry things so just pop it off the plastic and put it back. You'll find it probably had one of the plastic clips loose or something.

Thanks! Yeah since it workes correctly I figured it just might not be put in correctly. But how to pop a key off? They seem to fit so tight so my nails cant get around the edges, also - can someone confirm that there is no wire or anything that makes it a bad idea to remove a key? I mean, the thing IS backlit afterall.

Great link thanks. Still a bit worried about pulling a key off. It tells me to pull from the top and down, but I can't get it to snap off, and i fear it might break off.

I'd be cautious if I were you. If you break the key off Applecare won't cover it. It may go away in time but I can't make any guarantees.

Anyway, I can live with it - it's a really small thing. But can anyone confirm that Humac stores are Applestores so that I can just take my mbp to them (using my warranty) insted of shipping it overseas to fix a key?

Yes, Humac is the same as the Applecenter. It's just the Scandinavian fancy dancy word for it. No Genius bar though . I don't know if they take the computers to the back and get 'em repaired though.

They are total asshats anywhere, so you need to be firm when you go there.
I wouldn't start poppin' if I were you, since there are some hooks on the keys that can easily break, so you need to know what you are doing, else the warranty won't hold. Where do you live? If you live near on of the stores, just go there.

Jeg bor i Hillerød så det nærmeste er vel lyngby, men jeg har læst at den nye som er åbnet i KBH har eget værksted i kælderen. Og helt ærligt, det drejer sig om at de skal tage en tast af og sætte den på igen. Det burde de kunne finde ud af.
