I currently have a macbook 2.0ghz and a macbook pro 2.2ghz... I have been anticipating the new release of the imacs, mainly because I want a desktop from apple. Now that the imacs have been updated, I'm trying to decide if I should buy a monitor for my macbook pro and use that OR should I buy an imac...

Is an imac really all that great? I'm looking at the bottom-of-the-line model, 2.66ghz, 4GB RAM, 640GB HD, 9400m Vid Card.

If you think I should buy a monitor, which monitor works well with a MBP?

Any suggestions would be great. And thanks!

If you get a monitor for your laptop, you can not only take your laptop on the go, when you upgrade your laptop, hopefully the monitor still can be used with whatever new laptop you change to; with an iMac when you upgrade, you may be disposing a perfectly good display.

The difficult thing for me is that I wish I could have a desktop and a portable that were both completely in sync with each other. Until the day Apple comes out with a dock for a laptop, just getting a monitor for your MacBook Pro might be something to consider.

But of course, having the extra computer can never hurt either! It just depends on your situation and preference of course.
