hi, i am hoping someone with similar ears to me might be able to comment.

last year, i finally broke down about a pair of AirPods, the 2nd gen model. while the audio quality was mediocre, the convenience of wireless was game changing. i did notice that they were a bit tight for my ear canals so that my canals felt a little sore after using them. that seemed to get better with a few days of use (maybe my ear openings stretched a little). i didn't think much beyond that for the past year as i used them during my commute and occasional zoom call at work.

yet, up until the covid-19 crisis, i rarely wore them more than an hour or hour and a half max at a time.

fast forward to the past month, i use them many hours a day, sometimes 3 hours a stretch. during these days, my ears are pretty sore which such usage.

i really didn't plan to buy the AirPods Pro until at least another couple of years when the batteries were diminished in my AirPods, but if this shelter in place continues for a few more months, it might be worth buying the Pro model for comfort reasons.

but i ask: does anyone out there have a relative comparison for me? there are no apple stores to go in and test them out and while i assume apple store online would still do their usual 14 day return policy, i'd like to go into this possible purchase with high likelihood of success.

thanks for any experiences you guys can share.

The original AirPods hurt my ears very badly after only wearing them for 15-30 minutes. I just got the AirPods Pro today and they are much more comfortable. I wear the small tips and they feel very good.

I had the opposite issue. I had the first gen AirPods and in my left ear they were prefect, the right ear kept feeling like they would fall out. Got the Pros and I think that with the three sets of tips - and one is very small (I use the large ones) - you should be much more comfortable. And though I haven't tried any yet, there are also third party buds also being released - there are some threads here.
