Small question for fellows iPad holders

I'm an Apple Frick. My wife, well she hates it. She hate every thing new. Even her new car. The thing is that after I got the first Mac and it didn't crash in a week she loved it. After I played her favorite band in the car with the iPod - she loved it. Same goes with the Mac book and the apple tv.
When I got the iPhone she was so angry of that stupid toy until we got lost in New-York and thanks to the iPhone we found the way and the restaurant and so on........
After three weeks with the IPad including a week in Rome I still can't convince her that it's good for something other then a toy and I'm serious about it.
What are you doing with it that truly justify it (other then a great toy which I fully agree)?
 
Hand her your iPad and simply let her surf the Internet on it, convinced my gf that my investment was worth it. NOTHING compares to surfing the web on an iPad especially on the go with 3G :D
 
show here the apps, games, web, books, youtube, ect ect. and it seems like your wife is being grouchy just for the hell of being grouchy

yap! She can watch any show from her computer in bed hence no need for iPad for that matter.

And yes, she is happy since I'm happy. But the iPad for me is just another way of getting to do things. It's nothing new as surf the web with the iPhone or even streaming music or movies with apple tv. It has the benefit of large screen and basically its large iPod touch and nothing more at this point. And that's is just how I feel about it right now trying to rationalize things.
Any way, don't take me too seriously. Just enjoy what life have to offer and right now it's iPad:)
 
WTF? It IS a toy. It's a luxury item. None of us need it. She didn't need the trip to Rome either, did she? But she went anyway. This is YOUR toy because you want it. As long as you can afford it she should be cool with that. If she's not...that's her problem.

Blunt, but agreed.

I don't feel the need to convince others to like anything I like. If they like it, great, if not, they can go suck an egg.;)
 
Hand it to her and tell her she can look at as much manporn as she likes without messing it up and with the bigger screen it offers a better exp.
 
I think that this brings up a good question. Not that should your wife be happy that you are happy blah blah but whether the iPad does actually have something tangible that is truly worth the money objectively.

Take the middle ground 32GB WiFi model which retails in the US for over $600 after tax. That is an awful lot of money to have a device that doesn't really do anything 'revolutionary' as apple claims but just improves on an already quite good experience on laptops and phones.

I must say at this point that i have a 64GB WiFi iPad and love it but I think that a lot of the enjoyment i get out of it comes from the fact it is a new gadget, one that has been in development and rumored for so many years and is a pleasure to use day to day (for the most part). Do I think that it's value for money though? I would have to say no and i would be unlikely to recommend one to many of my friends as a result.

Im just interested to hear if anyone here thinks that the hundreds of dollars we have paid for our iPads has really got us something 'revolutionary' or just a pretty gadget that many of us may struggle to justify to others (however unecessary that may be).
 
Mine gives me longer usage times, a less frustrating user experience, a way to read colossal amounts of documents and books I felt uncomfortable reading on other devices, and the instant-on I craved for years. It removes the distractions of tweaking and reconfiguring a PC so am more focused on my work and leisure activities, most of which are text-based or online. I feel it is a step up from laptops and netbooks in the context of my needs. I don't know whether it's a luxury toy (as my iPods were) but it's a luxury to access my files this way so I feel the expense of a 32Gb Wifi was justified. I generally make one new device purchase a year, upgrading to a new everyday work machine (I spend at least 10 hours a day online or at a screen), and this one is my 2010 purchase.
