The ones that appear when you push the button on the battery? It's a battery meter.

They show you how much charge is left in your battery. So, for example, if four of the five are lit then you've roughly 80% power left.

 

[Father Jack]

If only one lights up and it's flashing, your computer wont start until the battery is charged or until the battery charger is connected.
