Sorry is this has already been covered, I took a quick look but didn't see anything on the thread.

Does anyone know if Big Sur is now learning how you use your device and altering the charging profile? So, I use my device at night on battery and usually charge this in the morning leaving it on all day while working on this and another device, and so the cycle continues. With Catalina, the battery would reach 100% whenever the device was charged.

Now with Bir Sur, today and 4-5 days into use since upgrade to the beta program my battery is holding at 80% where I suspect that this will reach 100% before I disconnect power at 17:00, this protecting the battery and extending life.

I also noticed that my health has dropped by a few percent but strangely the device seems to now be running for much longer since dumping Sophos Home

Anyone else noticed this or have any details where I can read a little more?

Yes, I've experienced the same, the charging of your battery is tuned according to your rotuine by mapping the time on battery and the time plugged in. Charging stops at 80% to improve battery life, it's totally normal for that to happen. Incase you're in a situation where you're not around an AC source you can always disable that here:

I saw this for the first time today. Battery is "On Hold" at 82%. Couldn't find much on the web about it, but assuming this is the smart charging.

@sub150 Correct, I see mine where I use the battery at night and put this on charge first thing it gets to around 80% and then holds with a full charge time late afternoon. You can over ride if you need to charge and go.

How do you override it? I didn't see a button to "charge til full" which I believe I saw a reference to on some webpage. There was a actually a screenshot of someone having a button like that.

I have to use Al Dente cuz my laptop spends most of its time plugged in these days because of current times.

Would love it if Apple just allowed us to have a native: "Don't charge past 80" checkbox in the battery settings for those of us like me at a desk all day.

Glad to see this working for some people! Very cool! I could never get this to work on my phone because I never charge consistently.
