Recently my smart keyboard has had problems connecting. I had to disconnect and connect many times, and then it would work. I also got "this accessory is not approved to work with this iPad" (or something similar) message. I tried to clean the connectors. Since today it doesn't connect at all. I will visit the Genius Bar tomorrow. I guess it should still be under warranty (bought in March/April last year). But has others had this problem?

I general I'm worried about the durability of the keyboard. I wanted to buy AppleCare+, but the smart keyboard is not covered. As I expected that to be the weakest part, I didn't buy. Unfortunately, as expected, that was the part breaking first.

They replaced my keyboard under warranty.

But I'm still worried this is the weakest part of the iPad pro, and AppleCare+ does not cover it.

Interesting, this weekend I was looking at the keyboard on the Apple Store app. The recent reviews were brutal about connection failures after recent software updates or hardware failures after 6 months or so of ownership. After reading this thread I went back and all reviews since mid 2016 were removed.

I had same problem (in UK), they swapped out mine, it was only 4 months old too.

I was having problems with my Smart Keyboard, but I'm outside of the 1-year window, so figured I was out of luck. Miraculously, my keyboard started working with the upgrade to iOS 10.3.2... I decided to search online and see if they fixed a bug or something, and stumbled upon this:

I'll try if the keyboard stops working again, but for now, it's back to normal (and I'm hoping it will stay that way!!!)

Recorded my issue, wonder if you are experiencing the same:

Save your money. I have replaced 3 keyboards in 3 months. They all do the exact same thing: drsin battery, disconnect at will, fail to connect. Save your money. Buy a Logitech.

My original had the connection error message and was replaced by Apple afer 14 months. The replacement did not have the error message but did not work well at all. It would lose connection. I picked up a new one today. It does work better but with movement it will cut out sometimes.

I noticed the connector alignement to be off. Facing the screen and connecting the Smart Keyboard both keyboards would align themselves to the far right of the iPad pro connector. It’s right on the very edge. When setup and typeing if the software keyboard comes up holder the lefft side of iPad in place and then push the right side of folded keyboard stand behind display to the left it comes right back.

I did not notice this until I got the first replacement. The second replacement is very close in placement. That leads me to beleive either the iPad magnets are misaligned or high perentage of keyboards are misaligned. I would go for the former
