iPhone 8/Plus Smashed iphone sent off for insurance, unable to Erase (Erase pending)

Morning
So my phone unfortunately saw its demise while being smashed into a million pieces somehow. I sent it off and the insurance company messaged me asking to erase all the data on Find iPhone.

I logged in, selected device, then Erase,

However i selected it and it states "Erase pending, this iPhone will be Erased when connected to the internet......

but the phone is destroyed so I am very sure it wont have internet access..... so what then?

Anyone had similar experiences?

If the phone ever connects to the internet again, the Find My service will tell the phone to erase itself.

I think what the insurance company might be saying is for you to remove the device from your Find My list. (Maybe)
