SMB and AFS keep disconnecting after 24 hrs or so

I have an old mid 2011 iMac and I have High Sierra on it.

I use it to display photos that are store on a Synology DS410 server.
I have mapped the network drive from the Finder "Connect to Server"

It displays well for about 24 hours and then all the animated screens with photos show blank.
The smb and afs connection is broken and I have to restart the iMac to gain access to the smb and afs servers again.

ANY HELP ?

You get it to last that long? I have two High Sierra machines which just refuse to do file sharing correctly for longer than a minute or three. I am beyond pissed. I've been doing computers most of my life and file sharing networking has ALWAYS been an absolute pile of garbage. Like printers, you'd think we could have this basic crap resolved by now.

Both machines have the same OS. Both are using ethernet (it's even worse on wifi). I've never tinkered with the low-level networking configuration files.
