New iMac user, installed smc Fan control and it doesn't seem to work.
(it worked fine on my Macbook though!)
It installed fine, but constantly shows that my mac is at 0 degrees.
Is smc fan control not compatible with the new macs or what? :'/

any insights would be helpful. Thanks :D x

Did you use the Intel verison? Seems to be a special version for Intel iMacs.

If wondering, I'll be installing SMC Fan Control on my future 21.5" iMac i3 as well. Even if only cooling it down 5-10 F degrees, I feel it will help. To me (whether its a human body, a fridge, vehicle or even curling iron - LOL!!!), having something "too hot" worries me. If one can keep its insides cooler (like human body on a nice comfortable `cool summer` day), then its better in the long run. But that's just me...

right.. i can't remember which one I've downloaded. but regardless, for the new iMacs, which version should I be installing to make it work? the first link or the second link?

We are on the same boat mate, mine's the new iMac core i5 21.5" :)

Version 2.2.2 should work.

If not, suggest reading the many comments within:

If still not working, suggest replying to that thread. Perhaps someone in that posting can help as well.

If wondering, I get my future iMac i3 between Aug 12 - 16. Hopefully, SMC Fan Control will work on it. Only time will tell.

Good luck (to both of us)....

mine is a 2.2.2
and it is showing 0*C constantly lol
let me know when your imac arrives and whether it encounters the same problem
i will have to uninstall it for now...

A few moments ago, I noticed a new version of iStat Menus 3.04

re: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/istatmenus.html

Based on its overview, it now has "fan speed control" feature. Perhaps SMCFanControl is no longer needed on 2010 iMacs? Perhaps only this program is needed - for both heat monitoring and for fan speed control? Might want to investigate this add-on in more detail.

If wondering, my new iMac still has Aug 16 to Aug 20 delivery date.

Good luck...

If wondering, still waiting for my iMac 21.5" to arrive. Apple-Order-Status is showing "in flight" to my house. LOL!!! Hopefully, I'll receive it within the next few days. And, its in "perfect" condition.

If SMCFanControl program does not work for you, I wonder if a different iMac fan speed program will work instead?

re: http://www.lobotomo.com/products/FanControl/index.html

Might be worth researching this program as well. If wondering, a few folks seem to like this program better then SMCFanControl program.

Good luck!

For some unknown reason, I couldn't get SMCFan Control 2.2.2 program to successfully load into my mid-2010 21.5" i3 3.2 GHz system. Probably "user interface" problem. For now, I installed a different Fan Control program.

It loaded great but it is showing 0.0 C heat on its internal HD sensor. Very weird. But its many other settings seem to work great. Perhaps SMCFan Control and this other FanControl Program will need an update for mind-2010 iMacs? Only time will tell...

If wondering, I set my iMacs values as shown below. During the next few days, I'll probably turn the fan speeds down to 1600-1800 RPMs. Their current 2,000-2,300 RPMs are a little loud (during non-load tasks) for my liking. I'm sure between 1,600-1,800 RPM is good setting for my cooler temp basement location.

Hope this helps others (until minor mid-2010 updates are released)...
